First Look:
Paths and Path Intelligence™
Introducing a major update to RoastPATH® which includes the introduction of Paths and a new exciting tool, Path Intelligence™.
Path Intelligence
A predictive profiling tool that provides direction on critical roast events most impactful on the flavor profile based on origin and processing method. Path Intelligence focuses on the two most impactful parts of a roast curve: finish temperature, which is critical to outer seed development, and the duration of the development phase, critical to inner seed development.
What's a Path?
We've long wanted a more portable version of roast data to facilitate an un-siloing of individual roasting experience and make the sharing of knowledge across roast methods, equipment types, and harvest seasons easier and faster. Profiles created in RoastPATH (especially those created on data-forward digital roasting systems) are heavy with data that is specific to your roasting system which is super useful to you, less so to anyone not roasting in your roastery. A Path provides time/temperature targets, landmarks, and curves to use as a reference over which you drive your own system toward a flavor profile.
FAQs about Paths
- Generate a Path using Path Intelligence™
- Generate your own Paths from your favorite Profiles
- Download a Path from the Public Path Library
- Request a Path from someone in the Forums or on social media
- Ask your greens supplier or consultant for a Path for the greens you've purchased.
Unlike full-access of your profiles which is limited by time, Paths are limited by count. Save them as long as you want, you're plan may be limited to how many you can save in your library at a time. Free plan allows for 3 Paths, Small Roastery plan allows for 10 Paths, Medium and Large Roastery plans have unlimited storage of both Paths & Profiles. Learn more on our pricing page.
Path files will look different based on how they were created and where they came from:
- From Path Intelligence: Path will only include a BT and RoR curve as well as time/temp notes for charge, turning point, green>yellow, first crack, and drop. If you choose, all the the time/temp targets will be normalized for your machine using your typical first crack temp as a base point.
- From a colleague, supplier, or consultant: Path will include any curve data or adjustment data that your colleague's machine can pass to RoastPATH. If they log it, it will be in the Path (except for notes - notes are not shared).
- Converted from my own profile on the same coffee roaster: Path will include all curve data and adjustment data and if you have Roast Replay, RoastPATH will recognized that Path belongs to your machine and you can replay that Path.
If the Path is for a single-origin coffee and it came from someone outside your Roastery, it includes country of origin and processing method. If the coffee is a blend, nothing is shared other than it is noted as 'blend'.
By design, no specific coffee or green information is available inside a Path. It's up to the roastery that created the profile to choose how much coffee/greens information to share.
If the Path was created from one of your own profiles, the Path details will link back to the coffee and greens used in that profile.
Yes, but only if the Path was made from a Profile roasted on your coffee roaster. You can not replay Paths created on other coffee roasters or generated by Path Intelligence. You'll need to manually follow the Path once to create your own Profile or Path so when you replay, it is using settings and adjustments from your machine.
Absolutely. We've added a tabbed view for Profile and Paths in your roast reference dialogue box and both are available.
